Removing LauncherLocator Adware from Your Mac: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you’re one of the unfortunate Mac users who has fallen victim to the LauncherLocator adware, you’re in luck. This pesky malware has been causing headaches for many, but with the right steps, you can easily remove it from your Mac in no time. In this article, we’ll guide you through the process, and you’ll be adware-free in just a few minutes.

First, it’s essential to understand the nature of LauncherLocator. This adware is spread through malicious software, known as malware, which is often disguised as legitimate software. Once installed, it takes control of your browser, bombarding you with unwanted pop-ups, ads, and even stealing your personal data. But don’t worry; we’re here to help you take back control.

Step 1: Quit and Close All Applications
Before we begin, make sure to quit and close all running applications on your Mac. This is crucial, as some applications might interfere with the removal process. Take a few seconds to close any open windows and shut down any active processes.

Step 2: Disable System Integrity Protection (SIP)
This step is crucial to ensure that we can tamper with system files without warning. To disable SIP, restart your Mac in Recovery mode. Press the power button, then immediately press and hold the ‘R’ key. Release the ‘R’ key when the boot selector menu appears, and click on the ‘Recovery Mode’ option.

Step 3: Delete Unwanted Files and Folders
In the Recovery Mode, you’ll have limited access to certain files, but don’t worry; we’ll focus on the important ones. Navigate to the ‘Applications’ folder, and delete any unfamiliar files, particularly those with suspicious names like “LauncherLocator” or “L_InitStruct.liquidv3.js”. Don’t forget to empty the trash by right-clicking (or control-clicking) and selecting ‘Empty.’

Step 4: Remove Malware from Launch Agents and Launch Agents Local
Use the finder to locate the “Launch Agents” folder found in the ‘Library’ directory. Create a new folder inside and name it “Disabled.” Move the files from the “Launch Agents” folder to the “Disabled” folder. Next, navigate to “Launch Agents Local” and do the same. This will prevent any additional adware from launching.

Step 5: Reset Safari and Clear Browser History
